In this moment. (Poetry)

In this moment

Water trickling down my cheeks

Salt on my lips

I remember why I came this far

Not for arms to hold me

Or a warm body to crawl into bed beside

But to be walking

With my own resilient limbs

Upright stature

And a sense of self

That has taken time to feed

And grow

And nourish

On my own

The rains feed her more

I take the feeling of cold and make it hot

With the fire inside

That sparked once

Came alive

And refuses to go out now
Maybe a happy ending doesn’t include a guy, maybe… it’s you, on your own, picking up the pieces and starting over, freeing yourself up for something better in the future. Maybe the happy ending is… just… moving on. Or maybe the happy ending is this, knowing after all the unreturned phone calls, broken-hearts, through the blunders and misread signals, through all the pain and embarrassment you never gave up hope. — [from the movie, He’s Just Not That Into You]
